The white flag is an internationally recognized protective sign of truce or ceasefire. It signifies to all that an approaching negotiator is unarmed, with a desire to communicate. This symbol urges the move towards reasoning and empathy in time of increased polarity and ignorance.
I find the mass presence of advertising in our everyday lives stifling and support @artinadplaces as its important for us to use public space to have meaningful engagement with each other. Thanks to @vandalog and @dirtworship for the support.
Heres a short behind the scenes glimpse of the Berlin peformance. We will be producing a full edit after Art Basel in December.
Big thanks to @manthe.ribane for the amount of heart you put into this. Thanks to @inkakendzia for going through all that intense footage with me and being a kick ass collaborator, and @mrsakitumi for your incredible work on the sound design. Thanks to @instagrafite and @urbannationberlin for helping to realize the idea. Thanks to @chopemdownfilms for capturing the essence of the performance for us and always being near x Thanks to all the friends and associates who support me on my journey as i explore new work.
XLVII Portrait Series
Otherwise known as JAZ @francofasolijaz is like a brother to me. Sharing thoughts on the state of the world and the relevance of art movements. Sharing our frustrations about the boxes we get classified in and the superficiality of things were trying to avoid. Franco's explorations into sculpture and collage mirror my own search for stronger more meaningful expressions. Meeting Franco years back and over the years has been a refreshing reminder of the greatness and transformative qualities of art and how it is not be reduced to a mere decorative trendy thing but an act that can revolutionize and challenge the status quo. So much respect and love for this guy and his humorous mind.
Thanks to @sundaytimesza for a well written article covering the collaborative work done with @imraanchristian earlier this year. We try to make sense of the world around us through our work. We break reality. Cut it up and reassemble it to see it new.
No matter how much hate you spit we react only with LOVE.
The longer im here the more i realize that no matter how much one tries to control a situation the outcome of things is often dependent on external variables. One can predict and plan to a point. But there are other things at play besides your will and desires. This comes in the form first and foremost of your birth. Where were you born. To who and in what socio political climate. What resources are avaliable to you. Your formative experiences. The identity we form as our individual character with its own ethos and perspective can shine through in any situation but there are deeper elements at play in existence. Im not sure about karma fate or destiny but we all inherit a collective baggage weighted in what has happened before our birth. We can only try try try to do what moves us and hope to be true to our selves. All else rests on the wind. For all my failures I am truly sorry. For all my achievements i am grateful. May each one of you be blessed and do your best on the winding journey that is this earthly existence with its riddles.
BLEK LE RAT
XLVII Portrait Series
I was honored to meet legendary @blekleratoriginal and his wife @sybilleprou this year. Humbled and filled with admiration for them both. Blek's earliest works were in 1981 stenciling rats around Paris. Rats being the only free animals in the city.
