"Hokusai Tribute Wave" Fine Art Print *Link in bio* — People have been asking me to do my rendition of the great wave by Hokusai for the past 2-years. At first I was very reluctant, I didn't want to come off as someone who uses other people's "likeness" for personal gain. A month or two ago I was asked by Bobby & Ben Hundreds (of The Hundreds) to paint the wall behind their skate ramp in their Homebase. I proposed a few sketches of what I thought would look cool, 2-days later I got an email from Bobby Hundreds saying "Do you think you could do your version of the Hokusai wave? You can tell me to lol off if you want." Well, I didn't tell him to lol off, actually I finally looked at it as a possibility and a challenge. I finally feel like I am at a place where I don't feel like I am defacing or devaluing the original work. No artist should step on, or disrespect another artists work, especially for personal gain. You as an artist must make sure your style and your ideals are solidified before you venture into a new world of reinterpreting existing bodies of work. With that said, I did this piece with the most respect I could for the artist and I hope it comes across that way. My tribute to Hokusai is now available as a print on my website.
