To mark the occasion of post 200 and in eternal gratitude to all who have followed me here, left a kind comment and/or supported my work since I started this account last October I'm releasing a bird into the wild. The ave in question is the working study for "Blood On the Leaves", one of the paintings I'm working on as I prepare for The Gilded Age exhibition with @esao and @feral_kid which opens September 12th at @thinkspace_art
The drawing is pencil and gouache on Stonehenge and measures 6 3/4"x 4 1/8". Black Osprey chopped and dated on the reverse.
Detail photos to follow in the days and weeks ahead.

Shrike study, pencil and gouache on paper, 2010. Drawn from a specimen at The Field Museum, Chicago, Ill. Backstage access to these cabinets of curiosity via @tinyaviary - an afternoon spent drawing dead birds in the sun, my kind of party.
Detail of a 35th anniversary seal for my Dad's business - Bruce Horkey's Wood and Parts based just outside Windom, Minnesota. My folks have built an amazing legacy out of the black dirt of Rural Cottonwood County, turning out beautiful work for clients across the globe for three and a half decades. Hugely inspirational in so many ways, here's to many more anniversaries to come.
Detail of the beautifully arranged @bloodmilk cabinet of curiosities currently on display at the Fishtown location of @jinxedstore in Philadelphia, PA. If you find yourself in the area I highly recommend popping in to witness these jewels in real time as it is one of only two brick and mortar locations on this gray globe that carry Bloodmilk. Pictured here is The Oracle magnifying glass necklace-the lens grasped by a sterling silver life cast starling claw. A truly stunning piece and highly functional for examining tiny details in the obsessive arts.
The Cough That Spreads the Plague (detail), ballpoint pen on Fabriano, 2015. "Beyond the shadow of the citadel, there is no such thing as time, there is no such thing as negation. There is only this tangible, perceptible world. There is only this moment, this very moment." -Thou, "Free Will" (2014).
