hoping this helps with some questions that have been asked as to what was used in the process of painting this mural. The paint used was exterior grade black. The other two images you see are of the large recessed rectangle and how I decided to divided up the space you can see that the three lines were supposed to go along the bottom but I changed my mind last minute. Keeping the lines strictly vertical and horizontal within this shape was my way of paying homage to the architect (Davis Fawcett) and working within the details he designed. The other image you see is of a drawing that was created back in 2015. I used this as a direction but left out the diagonal lines I didn't want the piece to feel too busy. I use the number 3 in many of my works for a number of reasons. In this case the three light boxes were left blank to pay respect to three of my close friends/family members who lost someone during the process of me painting this.
that's a wrap! 56 hours of work put in over seven days. Supplies used (for those of you who might ask): 10 gallons of paint, 12 roller pads, one hand roller, a pair of gloves and a 80' lift! Nada mas. No tape or strings attached! Thank you @empire7studios for holding down the art hunt today and everyone from San Jose who participated. Most importantly those of you who came by to show love and provided blessings. 🙏🏽
I was raised in a town filled with mostly grey, brown and white houses. If anyone painted their house out of the "ordinary" it was considered an eye sore. Thankful that my kids are surrounded by this everyday. Most of us don't know this but having our kids (and ourselves) surrounded by color stimulates our creativity and the way we see the world we live in. Those of you who are architects and city planners keeping this alive and pushing the envelope. Just my 2 cents.
movement. As a kid growing up I remember my dad telling me these are our people and showing me books of their works and that I have the ability to do the same by engaging the public with my art. At the time I was a kid doing graff (which I also don't consider my work but I am a product of) so I think this was my dads way of encouraging me to keep at it. I also remember him telling me to not get caught when he would catch me sneaking out the house in the middle of the night (haha thanks dad it worked!). Just want to clarify some questions as to why I see things this way. ✌🏽✊🏽🙏🏽Image taken from @mr.1777
for the kids. Happy to see this piece installed in the new Kepler Neighborhood School in downtown Fresno, CA. Some of you may remember seeing this piece a while back when it was on display for the ESPN Super Bowl party in Houston. I wanted to donate the piece to a place where youth from all walks of life would have access to it. It was a tough decision and donating a piece this size isn't that easy but I feel I made the right choice. The way Kepler became my final decision was because I used to work in the public and charter school system for over 10 years and I know how important it is for our youth to have access these types of schools. Kepler also happens to be a project my brother has poured his heart and soul into for quite some time now and I was able to see it develop from start to finish (congrats bro!!). I have wanted to work with my brother on something since I left Fresno to attend art school. And to top it off the material used in this piece is plywood which is also the first material I was exposed to as a youth watching him build skate ramps which was our form of alternative education back then (haha). Thank you to the Tutelian team and Kepler family for coming together to make this happen. 📸: @yo_double_r
this project has by far been my toughest challenge to date. Aside from the size of it I have had to deal with many other obstacles such as the weather and family. Last weekend my boys were unable to come visit due to being sick but today the sun was out and their immune systems are all good! They helped me paint and my parents paid me a visit as well. I promised them all I would finish today so now it's go time!!!! ✊🏽🙏🏽💪🏽
Okay here you go eastside SJ! They say everything happens for a reason right? Well two weeks ago I found a stack of these "brown bag" misprints that were released back in 2014 with the @knowngallery group show for the movie 'Mall' by Joe Hahn. So I feel it's only fitting to do a little finders keepers with them tomorrow at the @eastridgecenter mall. PLEASE FOLLOW @empire7studios ASAP they will provide all the info such as drop times/locations around the mall. good luck! ✌🏽🙏🏽✊🏽
he trippy mayne! process shot of @brendantheblob doin what he do and making em say ewwwwww (in a good way hahaha). I won't be on site today due to rain but should be back tomorrow. There are also two other murals in progress by @cyrcle and @gemellosmurals here at the @eastridgecenter.
