It was on this night 16 years ago my young friend Jonathan Lim was murdered by William Porter; a photographer living in the tenderloin neighborhood. Jon, a 18 year old known by his graffiti names TIE & SEO throughout San Francisco community was attempting to scale the fire escape of a building located at the 70 block of Turk street. TIE was climbing the fire escape to paint the roof... William Porter who lived inside the building heard Jon outside on the fire escape and confront him through the window with a gun. Shocked & scared lolless Jonathan held his hands up in protest pleading to William Porter that he was not attempting to break-in but was only trying to paint graffiti on the roof... As Jonathan turned and ran down the staircase William Porter came out of the door and shot TIE in the back of the head. I know this story because a homeless man living in the alley witnessed the entire episode and told myself and several friends... The police however would not listen to this mans story and William Porter never spent so much as a night in jail. Rest In Paradise Jonathan, we miss you & are forever both inspired & grateful for your awesome courage, generosity and beautiful heart.
