This is a truely unique and amazing moment.
One of the first graffiti writers from the West Coast today being knighted in Rome. Risky built the legacy of graffiti style in LA for the last 30 years. His art inspired me when I was only 11 years old, for the first time seeing his beautiful raw graffiti piece at Venice Beach in 1988. That day I went home and tried to copy his piece, one of my first sketches. Risky's path has inspired many others. This inspiration has led myself and many others down a new path of discovery, a life long journey to discover something bigger than ourselves.
"When people ask if I ever thought I'd be in galleries and museums I always reply Yes..it was a goal I set early on ,but I never thought in a million years I'd ever be knighted in a Church designed and built by Michael Angelo"

If you know me then you've heard some of this.....but sometimes we need to educate others.
I started painting 1990 in the suburbs near the City Of Los Angeles. My goal in life as a young person was to be a recognized graffiti name in LA and to be from the graffiti crew AWR. I was obsessed with this art form, from painting hyper-complex burners to hitting illegal spots. You might not also know the raw costs we all paid to paint in the City of Angels. Some more than others. Many of my friends are gone but not forgotten. Many of us have paid a heavy price of burden to bare these names that still affect our lives today. For me, I represent the few, who after all these years are still pushing for something new and innovative while still building upon the original idea. I believe what we have created is bigger than the generic term
I will always be a Graffiti Writer. This term is greater than it's connotation. It is a path. Only a few can truly claim that title. You know who you are.
Only a few artists can relive the memories and share those crazy stories of back when this art form was created for us and discussed only between ourselves within our small community. I was part of the last generation to experience this direct chain of influence.
And here we are 2017 in beautiful Paris at the
. I think It will be easy to see what matters most. At this @urbanartfair it will be a good feeling showing with my peers who represent a wide range of styles embedded with this alchemy. For me instead of looking at this show's context from what is mostly defined from the term "Streetart", to separating those artists in the crowd who come from this core development and who are part of that historical timeline.
