The 1960s ushered in the golden age of American climbing, especially in Yosemite Valley. In 1967, Liz Robbins, along with her famous husband Royal Robbins, became the first woman to climb a V1 big wall. (First and second image). Riding the wave of the pioneers before them, Beverly Johnson (third image) and Sibylle Hechtel made the first all-female ascent of the legendary El Capitan in 1973.
