Level with me for a moment;
It's a Friday. Your alarm clock has just gone off letting you know its time to get up, get dressed and head to school. 7th grade.
Your mom is driving you this morning, due to an early morning parent teacher conference that youre not worried about because your mom doesnt like the teacher anyway.
Your school day goes on as normal and you meet up with friends after the last bell.
Every weekend you and your friends to go out and skate. (skateboard)
You all make your way back to the middle school, and take turns skating down a hill, seeing who can go the fastest.
Its your turn.
Anticipation has built, and your plan is solid.
Down the hill you go, but your wheels suddenly cease. You have been propelled off your board, only to land on your head and roll a few times.
The fall is over.
It didnt hurt too much, so you stand up, dust off and call it a day.
Arriving home, your mom has prepared spaghetti.
After eating, your plate gets washed, and you head to sleep.
You wake up in the middle of the night.
This isnt your bed. Not your house.
You're in the middle of a hospital.
You didnt walk away from that fall... 11 years this month.
3 seconds. 5 minutes. 22.375 years.
Doesnt matter how long I've known you, I'm here to help when people need help. That's one of the many foundations my art.
People are beautiful. Men, Women, anything in between. Helping them to realize that is a subtle goal of mine.
A good story is not ever told by just giving a detailed description of a characters face. "OMG HER EYES WERE SO EMERALD THAT I CANT EVEN."
I've spent many hours traveling for my art to find settings grand enough to share stories about for years to come.
Someday my memory wont be great, I've accepted that. And in knowing that, I've created a system to explain to my future self the vast endeavors experienced, as well as the many great people who have accompanied me along the way.
A couple years back, my friend @chris_ink_life announced that he had been recognized as the first person to sell $3 million in products for @zumiez and I really wanted to help him celebrate.
A couple texts and a 3 hour drive later, him and I rolled up to a party hosted by @pinkdolphinclothing where i met iamsu!, Lil Yachty, The Good Perry, and the creators of Pink Dolphin themselves.
I showed them some of my work, and gave them a poster of chris wearing their clothing signed by both Chris and I, and they were hyped.
Meeting people who created a lifestyle around individuality and having them be honored by my work really pushed me to a point where i realized its not about fitting in at all. Its about being you, and showing people no fear of being different.
None of that would have been possible if it werent for Chris helping me to get my first job ever when I was 16.
To the memories, and for the books.
