We will be back to finish the wall over the next school holidays, thanks @boonstreetart for having us this week. Such a beautiful evening with its pink shades & new public space, see you soon Kārearea!
Narrative is essential in everything we do with our art, designs & shapes come from a long process of engagement & research. The laneways of the new Wynyard Quarter district focus on Maramataka (The Māori lunar calendar) & from this theme I’ve designed 2 gobo lighting designs that interact with the other permanent works & landscape design going into the spaces around the @gridakl building. It was a nice surprise to see them in action last night projected onto the cars & walls - each one is unique & symbolizes the moon cycles & moon shapes over the varying 28-32 night skies according to different Iwi. Each night is seen as a crescent indentation with the movement of the larger shapes creating a full circular moon & becoming different quarters of the month. 💕
It’s a huge privilege for us to have companies trust our creative process. The new cafe for Fisher & Paykel Helathcare includes their first large scale art work on site so it took a lot of trust to let us design & paint this mural. The full meaning will be up on our FB page & website soon but it’s great to be able to sign the project off so the decorators can do their thing, the lighting isn’t too favourable but let’s just say the mural should brighten things up lol!
Sooooo cute getting messages that our Ruru is in place and already welcoming you over to say hi 😉. ‘Karanga’ will be perched in Kingsland for the next few months so please take a pic & tag us if you pop past @janinetmd @charlestmd so we can choose someone to send our little BIRDGANG gift to at the end of the @thebighoot2018 campaign 💕
