I'm getting ready to paint today for the first time since October. I'm excited to start a new piece to say the least!
It's funny where inspiration comes from sometimes. I snapped this photo while I was priming my ten new panels yesterday, and looking back at it now, I love how that partly primed panel at the front looks with those messy, brushy edges on the grey. Something to keep in mind for a future background maybe...
I figured since I so often like starting on a pale grey base, I'd go and tint a whole tub of my favourite @artspectrum.com.au primer. (Then I went and got distracted by the patterns as I was mixing of course.)
Tonight's project in progress.
I've almost finished the first layer on this one. Hopefully today it will be done, then tomorrow I'll move onto the first layer of the next piece while this part dries. (Oil on panel)
"Delphinium" has always been one of my favourites, and it's now available from @art2muse gallery. It's oil and acrylic on a 90cm/36" diameter wooden panel. Scroll through for some close ups!
It's time to share a proper scan of this finished Barking Owl piece! I love starting and finishing the day with a bit of charcoal work. It's something I can working on when painting isn't practical (not to mention: I just love the process). This one is 11x14" charcoal, PanPastel and watercolour on paper. (Sold.)
The first painting of the year is underway!
So much of what I love about Barking Owls is in their big, bright yellow eyes, so even though I'd initially planned for this to be a colourless piece, I just had to add a bit of yellow watercolour in there to bring the eye to life. Now I'm finding the few areas that need a flick of the darkest charcoal, and he's done!
! It's always interesting to see as I find there's often an unexpected image that pops up in there! It's good to look back on though. Thank you SO much for all your support this year.
I'll have plenty to share soon enough as I have a lot of deadlines to meet in the first half of next year, and I don't even know what the second half of the year holds yet! (Not to mention, my boys start school next year, which I'm sure any parent understands feels like exciting and strange at the same time!) I hope 2018 is very good to you! Happy Holidays all! ✨
